Digital Content Specialist

RFA is currently seeking an English-fluent Digital Content Specialist to join its Communications team. This position will focus on assisting and driving efforts to improve RFA’s social media operations, online presence, and distribution of content on all digital platforms, in addition to other communications tasks as needed.

The Digital Content Specialist will: (1) Work closely with embedded social media practitioners and editors of RFA’s language services, helping to create products that engage and grow audiences in RFA’s markets; (2) Teach techniques and share best practices, leading trainings; and (3) Track and identify social media successes among RFA’s services.  The individual in this role will also help produce a monthly e-newsletter, assist with any digital branding initiatives, work with technical staff to help enhance website UX, and produce weekly internal emails for RFA staff.

In addition to fluency in technical skills and social media trends, the role requires a keen interest in journalism in the digital space and an awareness of storytelling techniques used by other media organizations.  The ideal candidate would be an enthusiastic team player with a sense of humor and requisite patience when it comes to explaining ideas and techniques to those who are less tech-savvy.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Help RFA language services grow social reach and engagement
  • Conceive and execute platform-specific social media projects and other digital initiatives
  • Work closely with language service reporters and editorial staff to produce story-driven, high impact news content with a focus on video production
  • Train RFA language service staff on social media, audience development, community engagement and visual content production best practices
  • Monitor metrics and compile analytics for RFA digital and social initiatives and other reporting needs
  • Identify and track changing social media trends and platforms in RFA target markets
  • Create and format a monthly e-newsletter, circulate internal weekly updates on noteworthy events in DC
  • Help to track and monitor RFA mentions in online media
  • Create and monitor ad campaigns on Facebook, Twitter, and Google AdSense

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; major in related field preferred
  • Demonstrated writing ability with emphasis on social copy
  • Experience creating video content in different formats for different platforms
  • Experience managing social media platforms and publishing for brands
  • Intimate knowledge of mainstream social media platforms (Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter); experience with Asian social media platforms and chat apps is a bonus
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with and train staff for whom English is a second language
  • Background in journalism or nonfiction storytelling; an ability to identify great stories and create content that audiences understand and want to share
  • Understanding of SEO best practices and tools
  • Working knowledge of Adobe CC (Premiere, After Effects)
  • Solid writing skills and English fluency an absolute must
