2008: The Year In Pictures

The year 2008 brought major events throughout Asia. Unusually heavy snowstorms wreaked havoc in China as millions of people tried to travel home for Lunar New Year.

Cyclone Nargis then devastated Burma, a major earthquake rocked Sichuan province in China, and flooding in Vietnam and Cambodia caused record damage. Beijing played host to the Olympic Games, but unrest in Tibet turned violent and tensions remained high in both Tibet and Xinjiang at the end of the year.
