Developers are filling in Boeung Kak Lake, in central Phnom Penh, as part of redevelopment plan that will bring high-end commercial and residential properties to the area.
The lake is currently home to more than 4,000 residents who are holding out for more compensation in the face of eviction. The municipal government has ignored their demands and deployed armed guards to protect sand-dredging equipment while the lake slowly disappears.
