지난 11월 5일 캐나다 토론토 대학에서 영화 '크로싱'이 상영 되었습니다.
이번 행사는 '토론토대학 한보이스'의 주최로 열렸습니다.
캐나다 토론토에서 북한 인권을 개선시키기 위해 일하고 있는 대표적 단체 중 하나인 '한보이스(HanVoice)'는 올해 2009년, 대학생들을 중심으로 이루어진 움직임으로 '토론토대학 한보이스(University of Toronto HanVoice)', '맥매스터 대학 한보이스(McMaster University HanVoice)', '맥길 대학 한보이스(McGill University HanVoice)' 를 각각 만들게 되었습니다. 현재 '토론토대학 한보이스'는 11명의 집행부와 이메일에 사인한 130명이 넘는 대학생들로 구성되어 있습니다.
'토론토대학 한보이스'를 만들게 된 계기를 '토론토대학 한보이스' 공동회장의Alex Woo를 통해 들어봤습니다.
Alex Woo:
I am so young. It was difficult for me to get involved with any the other facets or aspects of HanVoice. Me and I collaborated with two other partners, Ted Kim and Djastin, we were thinking what can we do and we all went to U of T. So we thought why not try to bring an issue to U of T and we started with one event last year, towards end of last year. And we got a great response. So we decided to make a club. (너무 어리다 보니 한보이스의 행사에 참여하는 일이 쉽지 않았습니다. 그래서 저와 Ted Kim 그리고 Djastin이 모여 과연 우리가 무엇을 할 수 있을까 생각해 보다가 모두가 토론토대학 학생인 만큼 북한 인권 문제를 토론토 대학에서 시작해 보자는 의견을 모았습니다. 그리고 작년에 한 행사를 열었는데 좋은 반응을 얻어 공식적인 토론토대학 한보이스를 만들게 되었습니다)
캐나다에 있는 대학들을 중심으로 젊은 세대들이 북한 인권 문제에 관심을 가지는 것은 매우 중요한 일이 아닐 수 없습니다. 그 의미를 ‘토론토대학 한보이스’에서 marketing을 담당하고 있는 James Kim을 통해 들어 봤습니다.
James Kim:
North Korea issue is still not noticed, it is still really new so for us, specially U of T HanVoice and all the university chapters it is such an amazing thing to do because now we are getting younger people. Because before HanVoice was made of people that are the late 20s or early 30s. However, every movement really gets stronger to the younger people. Kids who are in the 19, 20 and 21 are part of this issue. Right now in Korea, young Koreans are apathetic in Seoul or any parts of Korea. But here in Canada, we are getting stronger. Hopefully we can take this out to the mainstream Canadian. (한보이스들은 매우 중요한 일을 하고 있습니다. 왜냐하면, 젊은 세대들이 관심을 가지고 있습니다. 왜냐하면 한보이스는 20대 후반, 30대 초반의 사람들로 이루어 졌습니다. 하지만, 이러한 움직임들이 점점 어린 세대들에게 접근해 갈때 그 효과는 더욱 커집니다. 이곳에서는 19, 20, 21살의 젊은 이들이 참여하고 있습니다. 지금 한국의 젊은 세대들은 북한 문제에 대해 무관심합니다. 그러나 이곳 캐나다에서는 매우 관심이 높습니다. 이 관심을 캐나다 사회에 더욱 이끌어 낼 수 있도록 하는것이 바람입니다.)
‘토론토대학 한보이스’가 가지는 첫번째 행사에서 영화 “크로싱”을 상영하게 된 의미를 물어 봤습니다.
Alex Woo:
Originally our first goal was that every single member of U of T community staff, students, everybody would like to be heard of the human rights refugee crisis in North Korea and this is just the first step, this is just the foundation that we are laying, trying to get a raise awareness and we are hoping that it branches out from here. (저희의 첫번째 목적은 모두가 하나가 되어 북한 난민 인권문제에 관심을 가질 수 있도록 하기 위함입니다. 이번 행사를 기초로 북한 인권 문제에 대한 인식을 높이고 그러한 관심이 뻗어 나가기를 바랍니다)
30여명이 넘는 학생들이 영화를 보기 위해 토론토 대학 내 한 강의실에 모였으며 마지막으로 영화가 끝나고 영화에 대한 소감을 한 학생을 통해 들어봤습니다.
Joseph Park:
It is a clearly moving film. Documents well some of the experience that these people really have to after endure and struggle through. I think it is very important for people like us and our situation here in other parts of the world to be informed of this kind of thing. I think this film is able to capture all of the emotional sentiment that will make an effective way to deliver messages. (매우 감동적인 영화였습니다. 북한 사람들이 겪어야 하는 고통과 경험이 잘 담겨있습니다. 저희 같은 사람들에게 그리고 다른 나라 사람들에게 이러한 사실을 알리는것이 매우 중요하다고 생각합니다. 북한 난민에 대한 문제를 잘 전달 할 수 있는 감동적인 영화라고 생각합니다.)
이번 행사에는 북한 인권 단체인 한보이스(HanVoice) 잭 김 대표와 함께 미국 캘리포니아에서 북한 인권을 위해 일하는 LiNK(Liberty in North Korea) 회원들도 함께 참여해 그 의미가 더욱 컸습니다.
