Administrative Assistant, Uyghur Service

Radio Free Asia (RFA) is a private, Washington, DC-based, nonprofit corporation that provides accurate and timely news and information to Asian countries whose governments prohibit access to a free press. Delivered in nine Asian languages in addition to English, our journalism extends beyond radio to include web, video, mobile and e-books. RFA is seeking a polished, organized, and detail-oriented administrative professional to support the Uyghur Service as an Administrative Assistant in its Washington, DC, headquarters.

 Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing executive and administrative support to Uyghur Service
  • Assisting Service Director and Deputy Director in providing a full range of administrative duties, such as handling correspondence, arranging meetings, maintaining files, and facilitating the operation of the Uyghur Service.
  • Preparing, collecting and drafting reports, memoranda, letters, announcements and other written material; reviewing such material for format, content and accuracy.
  • Arranging, planning and maintaining the Uyghur Service's travel, vacation, schedules, meetings, special projects, and expense records and ensuring follow-up on all action items.  
  • Supporting the Uyghur Service's communications with other departments.  
  • Ensuring that the Uyghur Services timesheets are processed and approved every two weeks.
  • Performing other duties as requested in support of the Uyghur Service.
  • Other duties as assigned

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree preferred
  • Prior experience providing administrative support for executives in an office environment strongly preferred. A newsroom experience is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, work ethic and ability to multitask and prioritize to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills both in a written and verbal form.
  • Fluency in written and verbal Uyghur required; proficiency in English and Mandarin is preferred. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently under one's own initiative.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency with MS Office and Google Workspace.
