Digital Content Producer I , Cantonese Service (London-Based)

RFA’s Cantonese Service is currently seeking a skilled video professional who will be able to plan and execute the entire cycle of video production, creating compelling and engaging multimedia content that will help to broadcast and fulfill its mission to the wider public. This is a full-time position and is open for applicants to be based in London, the incumbent will work closely with RFA Cantonese team members in London, with frequent communication and collaboration with our Washington D.C. office. 

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Planning video projects from story development, research, and proposal to production, and drawing upon strong creative skills to explore new trends and approaches to video storytelling;
  • Planning programs produced in London studio;
  • Editing and designing graphics for all the programmes produced in London;
  • Researching information online and from other relevant news sources – including archival footage and photos as well as public records and government data – to support and enrich story writing;
  • Using production equipment – digital cameras, DSLRs, audio recorders, microphones, lights, and more to perform a range of tasks related to video production;
  • Editing video at a level consistent with an understanding of professional video editing concepts and strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly in Adobe Premiere and After Effects;
  • Editing first rough cuts drawing upon all available visual and audio means, including infographic design, data presentation, music, and sound effects;
  • Creating final cuts with finalized editing and simple motion design, animation, and special effects;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education
    • Bachelor's degree in journalism, multimedia design, video production or related field from an accredited school or university or equivalent transferable skills showing the ability to gather, produce, write, and present news and information clearly and objectively.
  • Experience
    • Minimum 2 years experience working in a professional multimedia environment, and previous professional graphic design/video editing experience preferred. Please provide examples of published work.
  • Skills/Abilities
    • Demonstrated proficient ability to edit video using Adobe Premier and After Effects, by providing examples of published videos.
    • Proficiency with graphics software, social analytics (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube), and third-party social management tools.
    • Experience with audio and audio editing.
    • Proven writing skills for social media and short social media video combining still images, graphics, and video to effectively tell news stories.  Please provide published examples of content you have created.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current political, economic and social conditions in Hong Kong, China and UK.
  • Experience managing social media platforms for news/media outlets and knowledge of and ability to utilize online media in creative and innovative ways and to adapt to new technologies as they evolve.
  • Strong general computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Required language skills: Spoken and written fluency in Cantonese, working proficiency in English and Mandarin.
  • Must possess existing work eligibility in the U.K., without the need for RFA to provide sponsorship.
