English News Editor

Radio Free Asia (RFA) is seeking a skilled and efficient journalism professional to rewrite, edit, and add value to translated stories from its nine Asian-language news services for publication on its English-language website and major social media platforms. This position will be based in RFA’s Washington, DC, office.

Responsibilities

  • Writing, editing and publishing reports for the RFA website and social media based on story summaries and English translations of key stories from RFA's nine language services and researching additional background information;
  • Reporting on human rights, the environment and other issues as well as political developments in all six countries covered under RFA's mission (China, North Korea, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos);
  • Conducting original reporting as required, particularly on Asia-related events in Washington, DC;
  • Performing other duties as assigned, including potentially occasionally working weekends or extended hours, as necessary.

Qualifications

  •  Minimum three years’ journalism experience;
  • Bachelor's degree in related field;
  • Mastery of written English with ability to convert rough translations to polished English while maintaining accuracy and meaning of original work;
  • Proficiency in Mandarin or any of RFA's nine broadcast languages preferred;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work effectively with diverse cultures and personalities;
  • Excellent attention to detail with ability to reliably produce grammatically correct and typo-free work;
  • Strong computer skills with familiarity with publishing content online and to social media.
