Head of Video, BenarNews

BenarNews is an online news service affiliated with Radio Free Asia that reports in Bengali, Thai, Bahasa Malaysia, Bahasa Indonesia, and English, on pressing topics such as human rights, freedom of expression, conflict, climate change, politics, and geopolitics.

We are currently seeking a top-notch candidate for the position of Head of Video, based in our Washington D.C office. This is a vital position that will be providing guidance to teams for all languages covered by BenarNews on the quality and the standards of the final published videos. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Setting and monitoring the standards for all videos used on different media channels (Website, social media, streaming service..etc.), ensuring that they reflect the strategic direction and ethics of BenarNews in a consistent manner. 
  • Guiding the staff to produce videos that are of high accuracy and clarity.
  • Ensuring videos appropriately match the stories, providing suggestions and corrections when necessary.
  • Generating fresh ideas for videos that best complement the stories and special features. 
  • Providing frequent training to the team on best practices of video production and editing.
  • Exploring new ways to improve the videos, on both their reliability and ability to engage the audiences. 
  • Hiring and training freelance videographers when needed. 
  • Working with the Managing Editor to develop a strong and unique voice and tone for videos produced by BenarNews. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • At least seven years of experience in video editing, preferably at a news organization, with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role with similar responsibilities.
  • Strong storytelling skills and the ability to set a unique tone for videos produced. 
  • Working experience in one of the countries that BenarNews covered is advantageous.
  • Native fluency in English and proficiency in one of  BenarNews's broadcast languages are preferred.
  • Must have a portfolio of previous work.
