Asia Fact Check Lab is a new platform by Radio Free Asia that aims to provide viewers with accurate and unbiased analysis of China-related statements made in public in order to counter misinformation and disinformation and to increase knowledge of critical issues. Asia Fact Check Lab is currently seeking two journalists with a critical thinking mindset and curiosity in fact-seeking to generate daily fact-checking reports and in-depth special projects. This full-time position is open for both US- and Taiwan-based candidates and will be located in RFA’s Washington, D.C. headquarter, or Taipei office.

 Responsibilities: 

  • Pitching, shaping, and developing ideas for fact-checking reports and in-depth special reports
  • Monitoring major events in Chinese media circle and social media discussions to detect potential misinformation and disinformation
  • Researching media and academic resources and interviewing stakeholders and experts to fact-check potential misinformation and disinformation circulated.
  • Writing daily fact-checking reports and in-depth special reports 
  • Working with the production team and engaging colleagues on data reporting and graphic designing to generate multimedia contents
  • Building and maintaining relationships with external collaborators and fact-checking communities
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, mass communication, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Fluency in written and verbal Mandarin and English
  • Experiences in news production required; fact-checking experiences preferred.
  • Understanding the principles of fact-checking and willingness to explore this field.
  • Excellent news judgment and comprehensive knowledge of Asian-Pacific affairs, as well as the Chinese media environment.
  • Ability to multitask and keep strict deadlines
  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills required; multimedia production skills preferred.
  • Good interpersonal skills and team spirit. Ability to attend remote meetings and collaborate online with a team from different time zones.
