Mandarin Service Digital Content Producer for Sound

Radio Free Asia (RFA) is a private, Washington, DC-based nonprofit corporation that provides accurate and timely news and information to Asian countries whose governments prohibit access to a free press. Delivered in nine main Asian languages in addition to English, our journalism extends beyond radio to include web, video, mobile and e-books. RFA is currently seeking a professional experienced in audio/video production to join its Mandarin news service as a Digital Content Producer for Sound and work to enhance the audio, sound, and music elements of its news pieces to achieve greater audience engagement and impact of its Mandarin programming.  This position will be based in either Washington, DC, or Taipei.

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Identifying musical segments appropriate for Digital/Feature/APR team products to enhance effects and audience appeal;
  • Working with all team members to help record and edit sounds from their field assignments, including interviews;
  • Creating/composing original music and editing and mixing music for program use and promotion of RFA brands;
  • Transferring and uploading programs for podcasting, and re-editing or mixing whenever needed;
  • Helping supervisors monitor, identify, and solve sound problems in existing radio/digital programs;
  • Conducting live studio broadcasts when needed;
  • Instructing and mentoring coworkers in choosing appropriate music for their programs when needed;
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required, master’s preferred
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in audio/video production; experience in journalism or related field a plus;
  • Superb editing skills;
  • Strong computer skills, including familiarity with the latest software and Apps related to audio production for radio/TV and social media content;
  • Ability to masterfully use audio/video equipment, both in studio and field;
  • Ability to creatively record, compose, edit, mix, and produce sound effects both appealing to the audience and consistent with story content;
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, ability to work well as a member of a team and capable of managing projects independently;
  • Flexible and able to work well within time constraints;
  • Comprehensive understanding of China affairs; creative and passion for RFA's mission;
  • Fluency in written and verbal Mandarin Chinese and English.
