Network Engineer/Administrator


Radio Free Asia (RFA) is a private, Washington, DC-based, nonprofit corporation that provides accurate and timely news and information to Asian countries whose governments prohibit access to a free press. Delivered in nine Asian languages in addition to English, our journalism extends beyond radio to include web, video, mobile and e-books. RFA is currently seeking a talented Network Engineer/ Administrator who can provide daily support to the organization and its employees on network status and, including but not limited to installing, maintaining, troubleshooting equipment and systems. 


Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop and maintain network documentation, policies, procedures and configuration information.
  • Research, design and implement new network related initiatives.
  • Manage basic and expedited support to resolve all networking related issues.
  • Ensure resiliency is implemented at crucial points in the network to guarantee maximum availability.
  • Support the installation, maintenance, operation, and security of the LAN/ WAN infrastructure and network devices (Firewall/VPN, routers, switches,  VoIP, WIFI).
  • Use network monitoring tools to troubleshoot, monitor, and report network capabilities and connectivity as required.
  • Identify opportunities and recommend solutions for improving the overall network health by assessing overall effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Analyze and prepare the short-term / long-term capacity needs for switching, routing transmission, and signaling.
  • Work with Director of Information Security and System Administrators to ensure that all network components are secure and compliant.
  • Monitor networks for security concerns.
  • Other duties as assigned. 



  • 5+ years of relevant experience in networking not limited to: TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, QoS, SNMP, VoIP, Firewalling, Wireless, and Troubleshooting.
  • Must have strong hands-on knowledge of routing and switching. Experience with HP and Cisco is a plus.
  • Experience in multi-platform environment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to multi-task and set priorities in a flexible manner to address changing needs.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Highly analytical; proven problem-solving abilities.
  • Work may be required outside of core working hours. Minimum travel may be required.
  • Ability to lift/carry/push up to 50 Lbs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with teammates, other teams, leaders, vendors, and non-technical personnel.
  • Network+ Certification.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Cisco CCNA or higher certification.
  • Experience supporting DNS and DHCP.
  • Experience supporting IP space management.
  • Network Design Experience.
  • Knowledge of Storage Area Networks (SAN) and SAN Administration.
  • Non-profit experience is a plus.
