Web Editor, Uyghur Service


Radio Free Asia (RFA) is a private, Washington, DC-based, nonprofit corporation that provides accurate and timely news and information to Asian countries whose governments prohibit access to a free press. Delivered in nine Asian languages in addition to English, our journalism extends beyond radio to include web, video, mobile and e-books. RFA is seeking a creative and passionate Web Editor to present and showcase the web content of its Mandarin Service. The Web Editor’s main goal will be to post and update the Uyghur Service’s news products in a timely manner and make its website look user-friendly and professional. This position will be based in Washington, DC. 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Ensuring that all content of news, feature programs, special coverage, and video/webcasting shows are posted on the Uyghur Service’s website in a timely manner.
  • Supervising the visual layout of content and providing suggestions to supervisors.
  • Proofreading content to minimize errors and helping to improve eye-catching titles.
  • Optimizing web representation, design, and procedures, drawing upon strong creative skills to explore new trends and approaches to web storytelling and representation.
  • Conducting web production, including image processing, basic video editing, platform packaging, and a variety of Content-Management-System operations.
  • Coordinating with different teams and groups involved in the news and broadcasting production under the guidance of superiors.
  • Tracking and analyzing website traffic
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.


  • Good writing skills, including strong abilities in proofreading and editing in Uyghur.
  • Prior relevant web editing experience preferred
  • Knowledge in CMS/Plone, Java, Photoshop, social media analytics (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube), and other audio editing software is a plus.
  • Academic credentials of Bachelor and/or Master degrees preferred in such areas as language, journalism, or related field in social science or humanities from accredited colleges or universities) or equivalent educational qualifications or transferable skills.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of history, culture, and current political, economic and social situations of Uyghur people and China's atrocities against Uyghurs today.
  • Working proficiency in English.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, and photo slide production.
  • Good communication skills and team spirit, can perform well under deadline pressure.
