Brian Ghilliotti :

The drug traffickers will be the biggest winners of renewed conflict in Laos, and the CIA and friends will want to get control of this reopened drug producing market. China and Burma are fighting for control over the northern Burman portion of the poppy producing Golden Triangle regions. This happened after the CIA and its former Chinese Nationalist Army remnant allies were expelled from the area a couple of decades ago.

Frequent Lao Visitor :

This latest incident seems to have no connection with any of the prior shootings that targeted Chinese buses and Chinese workers or with tourists so I don't see why it should affect people's plans to visit Laos. Also the Highway km markers on the so-called "new road" indicate it is Highway 4C from Kasi to where it joins Highway 4 just north of Muang Nan - so we can start using the correct reference.

Man, I feel like the country just got worse and worse everytime I hear more news about it most of the time. But at the same time, I feel like one day, this will serve as a catalyst for the people to immediately overthrow the highly corrupt government, yet given its nature, should be done with extreme force, as doing it with discretion won't work well.
I hope one day when a new, democratic government in the form of constitutional monarchy (given its national history before the communist takeover) take place, they should condemn Vietnam for using the country as their puppet government.
