Kachin State People’s Party (KSPP)
Kachin State People’s Party (KSPP) is the leading political party in Kachin State and is preparing to contest all constituencies there and capture seats from the NLD and USDP. It was founded in 2019 by merging of four local parties: the Kachin State Democracy Party, the Kachin Democratic Party, the Unity and Democracy Party of Kachin State and the United Nationalities Federal Democracy Party. The leaders of two other parties, the Kachin National Congress and the Kachin State Progressive Party also participate in the KSPP. Its political aim is peace and establishing federated states in accordance with the 1947 Panglong Agreement. The party’s leader is Dr. Manam Tu Ja, a former vice chairman of the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO), which is the political wing of the Kachin Independence Army. He resigned from the KIO in 2010 in order to achieve federal democracy through politics.
