United Nationalities Democracy Party (UNDP)

It was founded in 2019 by former NLD members who won seats in the 1990 elections that were not recognized by the military junta at that time. These members formed their breakaway party because of internal disagreements within the NLD when it re-registered in 2012. They include former political prisoners who were arrested after the 1990 elections. The UNDP has sought to attract people disaffected with the NLD and to mobilize farmers.

David Hla Myint and Naw Ohn Hla

David Myint won a seat in the 1990 elections and was a close friend of Aung San Su Kyi in the 1990s. He is now preparing to contest in Kawhmu, the same constituency as Suu Kyi. Naw Ohn Hla was also a strong supporter of Suu Kyi who campaigned for her release from house arrest. She will contest for a Karen ethnic minister position in Yangon.
