앵커: 북한이 이달 들어 벌써 3번째 탄도미사일 무력시위에 나선 가운데 제이크 설리번 미 백악관 국가안보보좌관이 한국 윤석열 신임 정부의 김성한 대통령실 국가안보실장과 첫 전화 통화를 갖고 북한의 미사일 도발과 오는 한미 정상회담 의제 등 현안을 논의했습니다. 보도에 한덕인 기자입니다.
백악관은 12일 보도자료를 내고 “오늘 설리번 보좌관이 김성한 실장과 조 바이든 대통령의 한국 방문에 대해 논의했다”고 밝혔습니다. (National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan spoke by phone today with Republic of Korea National Security Advisor Kim Sung-han to discuss the President’s upcoming visit to the Republic of Korea.)
백악관은 “설리번 보좌관은 김 실장의 취임을 축하했고, 이들은 바이든 대통령과 윤석열 대통령의 회담이 폭넓은 한미동맹의 위력을 확인하는 기회가 될 것이라는 점에 공감했다”고 전했습니다. (Mr. Sullivan congratulated Mr. Kim on his appointment and they jointly noted that the meeting between President Biden and President Yoon is an opportunity to highlight the strength and breadth of the modern U.S.-ROK Alliance.)
또 이날 한미 양측은 “오늘 발사를 포함해 일련의 북한 탄도미사일 발사를 유엔 안보리 결의 위반으로 규탄하고, 북한이 취하는 위협에 긴밀히 공조하며 한반도의 완전한 비핵화라는 공동의 목표를 진전시켜 나가기로 했다”고 밝혔습니다. ( They also condemned the DPRK’s ballistic missile launches, including the launches today, as a violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions and committed to maintain close coordination to address the threats posed by the DPRK and to advance our shared objective of the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.)
아울러 이날 통화에서 한미 간 바이든 대통령의 방한과 관련해 추가적인 세부 일정이 논의됐고 다양한 외교 현안에 있어 공조를 강화하는 방안도 논의됐다고 백악관은 전했습니다. ( Mr. Sullivan and Mr. Kim also conferred on additional details about the President’s visit to the ROK and strengthening our cooperation across a range of shared foreign policy priorities.)
이런 가운데 미 국무부는 12일 북한의 가장 최근 미사일 발사와 관련해 “미국은 북한의 탄도미사일 발사를 규탄한다”며 “이는 최근 다른 발사와 마찬가지로 다수의 유엔 안보리 결의 위반이며 이웃국가와 국제사회에 대한 위협”이라고 지적했습니다. (The United States condemns the DPRK’s ballistic missile launches. These launches, like the others conducted in recent weeks, are in violation of multiple UN Security Council Resolutions and pose a threat to the DPRK’s neighbors and the international community.)
미국 인도태평양사령부도 12일 성명을 내고 북한에 더 이상의 불안정을 초래하는 행위를 자제할 것을 촉구한다고 밝혔습니다.
이날 성명에서 사령부는 북한의 미사일 발사가 미국인과 영토에 즉각적인 위협이 되지 않는 것으로 판단했다고 전했습니다. (While we have assessed that this event does not pose an immediate threat to U.S. personnel or territory, or to our allies, the missile launch highlights the destabilizing impact of the DPRK’s illicit weapons program.)
그러면서 “한국과 일본에 대한 미국의 방위 공약은 여전히 철통같다”고 강조했습니다. (The U.S. commitment to the defense of the Republic of Korea and Japan remains ironclad.)
유럽연합과 일본도 북한을 강하게 규탄하고 나섰습니다.
이날 기시다 후미오 일본 총리와 유럽연합의 샤를 미셸 정상회의 상임의장 및 우르줄라 폰데어라이엔 집행위원장은 12일 회담 일정을 마친 후 발표한 공동성명에서 “대륙간탄도미사일 기술을 사용한 발사를 포함한 북한의 지속적인 불법 탄도미사일 시험을 강하게 비난한다”고 밝혔습니다. (We strongly condemn the continued unlawful testing of ballistic missiles by North Korea, including launches using intercontinental ballistic missile technology.)
유럽연합과 일본 양측은 이날 공동성명에서 “우리는 북한이 위협적인 행동을 중단하고 핵무기와 모든 탄도미사일, 그리고 모든 대량살상무기에 관련된 프로그램을 유엔 안보리 결의에 따라 완전하고 검증 가능하며 불가역적으로 포기할 것을 촉구한다”고 전했습니다. (We call on North Korea to cease destabilising actions and abandon its nuclear weapons and its ballistic missiles of all ranges and any other weapons of mass destruction as well as related programmes, in a complete, verifiable and irreversible manner, as required by relevant UN Security Council resolutions.)
