On a rare official trip to Tibet, a European Union delegation was shown schools, towns, cultural and religious sites, and a prison -- the kind of itinerary that activists say is prone to Potemkin encounters staged by China. Nevertheless, the EU diplomats met with Chinese officials after their mid-June tour of the Tibetan capital Lhasa and a southeastern city and urged Beijing to address “very serious” human rights situation in places such as Tibet, Xinjiang and Hong Kong.
