History revision goes hand in hand with dictatorships, regardless of ideology. Repeat something enough times to a captive audience and they'll eventually believe it, because your voice is the only one they'll hear or - in some cases - want to listen to. We've seen this in all dictatorships that have rise and fallen in history. Even authoritarian wannabes in the west has tried to use this, but when there's a free media and an entrenched democracy with checks and balances, you don't get away with it as easily as in countries with a weak or young democracy.
